There are no passports necessary to enjoy this culinary journey through Israel! Join us at the JCA on Tuesday, April 8 at 7 pm to explore the rich flavors of Israel with Chef Yavin Cohen, the infamous Spice Detective.
Chef Yaniv Cohen grew up in a Sephardic family with Spanish, North African, and Middle Eastern roots. Since moving to Miami, Chef Cohen’s spicy culinary creations helped him open his restaurant, JAFFA, and write a cookbook, My Spiced Kitchen. You may also recognize him as the winner of the Netflix cooking show, Best Leftovers Ever, and maybe you know the Spice Detective YouTube channel.

Culinary explorations with the Spice Detective on Apr 8 will begin with education about the history of Israeli spices, their cultural significance, and how these spices shape the culinary traditions of Israel. Chef Cohen will share interactive cooking demonstrations with us and we will enjoy a night of food tasting with two complimentary drinks (beer or wine).

Our evening with the Spice Detective promises a night filled with great stories, funny moments, delicious cuisine, and interesting facts about the magnificent world of spices! While tasting and mixing our own spice blends, we will learn the health benefits and how to use the spices to enhance our cooking at home. Every participant will take their spice blend home by night’s end. My Spiced Kitchen will be on sale during the event and we will have our books signed by Chef Cohen.

Tickets are $18 per person. Invite all your family and friends to join us; click here to save your seat with the Spice Detective! Our thanks to the Israel Engagement Fund and the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs for helping us bring the Spice Detective to the JCA in honor of Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israel’s 77th Independence Day. Chef Cohen’s visit to Jacksonville is proudly supported by the Israel Engagement Grant: A partnership between the JCC Association of North America and the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs. Established in 2024, this year more than $1.5 million in Yamim grants are being distributed to more than 110 Jewish Community Centers and Camps in the United States. Our JCA is proud to be among the recipients of this accelerator grant designed to inform and educate while celebrating Israel in local communities.
