In our school, cooking with children is more than simply following steps in a recipe. It is an opportunity for our educators to break down complex concepts into understandable parts, helping the children actively participate in the learning process. As they stir, chop, and taste, children are not just learning about food, they are engaging in a developmental process that enhances their senses and fine motor skills, an understanding of sequences, and an introduction to different cultures of the world through food.
Our Cooking Around the World enrichment class offers children a hands-on, immersive experience in the culinary traditions of diverse cultures. In addition to preparing food, this enrichment class introduces children to different ingredients, the cultural stories behind various dishes, and the practices that shape global food traditions. Through cooking, students gain an understanding of a multitude of cultures in our world, making the act of preparing the food both an educational and creative experience.
By encouraging children to be active participants, rather than passive recipients, in both the kitchen and the world, this class nurtures their curiosity and involvement in creating something meaningful, whether it is a dish or a sense of community.
Our next session of Cooking Around the World with Ms. Renee starts on Tue, Nov 5. Parents should follow this link to register their children; space is limited in our kid-friendly kitchen and our class fills quickly.
