On June 1, the JCA reopened its doors. This is the next step in our multiphase plan, established under the close guidance of health advisors and government officials, to help ensure the health and safety of our membership and community.

We have enacted some new protocols so that you can still enhance your mind, body and spirit in a safe atmosphere. Please use the menu below to access specific information.

General Guidelines and Procedures

Hours of Operation

Reopening Date: Monday, June 1

Mon – Thur: 5:30 AM – 9 PM (The building will close at 9 pm instead of 9:30 pm to allow more time for staff to disinfect at night)

Fri: 5:30 AM – 5 PM

Sat: 1 PM – 6 PM

Sun: 8 AM – 6 PM

Protocols for Entering the Building and Use of Common Areas

Every person who enters the JCA will be screened outside the building for temperature (must be below 100 – CDC recommends 100.4) and will be asked screening questions. Those who do not pass the checks will not be permitted in the building and will not be allowed in until they receive a negative COVID test.

All staff will be required to wear a mask and protective eyewear. All customers will be required to wear a face covering except while actually working out, including when walking to and from the workout areas.

Front Desk/Registrar

The lobby Front Desk will be enclosed with Plexiglas and the membership scanner will now be touchless. Disinfecting wipes will be next to the iPads in the lobby for guests to use when registering to come in the building. The door to the lobby will not be propped open for security concerns; however, a hand sanitizing station will be on the other side of the door for people to disinfect their hands after opening the door.

The Registrar’s window has been replaced with Plexiglas to allow members and staff to communicate.

Only small tables with one chair each, separated by at least 6 feet, remain in the lobby. Only a limit number of individual chairs will be left outside the Fitness Center entrance to ensure at least 6 feet of separation.

Courtesy Desk

JCA Staff will no longer be stationed at the Courtesy Desk (near Fitness Center) to check people in and distribute towels and equipment. Towels will be left on the counter and replenished throughout the day. Balls or other equipment will be available in the appropriate areas for members to use, and disinfecting wipes will be available for customers to wipe down borrowed equipment (i.e., basketballs) before and after use.

  • Newspapers will no longer be available for check out.
  • Drinking fountains will be shut off; however, bottle refill stations will remain available.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available next to the doors to the courtyard for use after going through those doors.
  • Vending machines will remain operational with a more frequent cleaning schedule.


JCA custodial and maintenance staff have had their daily duties adjusted to meet the new disinfecting schedules and protocols, which means that some areas of the building may close for cleaning at specific times throughout the day.

Fitness and Recreation

Fitness Center and Personal Training

The use of cardio equipment in the Fitness Center has been  limited to maintain safe physical distancing between machines. A Fitness Center extension has also been established in the racquetball court across from the Gymnasium. There will be disinfecting wipes near each piece of equipment for members to wipe down machines. Additionally, staff will wipe down equipment after each use. The Fitness Center will be closed Monday – Friday from 1 – 2 pm for disinfecting.

Personal Training will take place in areas away from other members, and trainers will wear protective gear. Virtual Personal Training will continue to be available for purchase at jcajax.org/virtual.

Track and Gymnasium


  • Use of the Track is by reservation only.
  • Only one person/household is allowed on the track for a 30-minute period.
  • Reservations for the use of the track should be made with adminsupport@jcajax.org.
  • Reservations will be accepted 48 hours in advance and not before.


  • Individuals are allowed to shoot a basketball at an available hoop.
  • Basketball sharing is not allowed and individuals must maintain proper physical distance from others in the gymnasium.
  • There will be no team sports.


Indoor and Outdoor Pools are available for use. Outdoor showers are available for members to use before and after entering both pools. The locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms and hot tub will not be open.

  • Use of the outdoor shower is required before entering the pool.
  • Pools are for lap swimming only.
  • Only one member/household per lane is allowed.
  • Lane ropes will remain in all day in both pools.
  • The Kiddie Pool will remain closed until further notice.
  • Lounge chairs have been placed on the Outdoor Pool deck with at least 6 feet between each chair.
  • Reservations for 1 hour of swim should be made with Josie Martin at josie.martin@jcajax.org.
  • Reservations will be accepted 48 hours in advance and not before.

Pool Closures:

The Outdoor Pool will be closed from June 8 – July 31 (for use by J Days of Summer) between 9:30 am – 3:00 pm.

Pools will be closed for disinfecting during the following times:

Mon – Thur | 8:30 – 9 am, 12 – 12:30 pm, 2:30 – 3 pm, 6 – 6:30 pm, 9 pm closed for the day

Fri | 8:30 – 9 am, 12 – 12:30 pm, 4:30 pm closed for day.

Sat | 3 – 3:30 pm, 5:30 pm closed for day

Sun | 11 – 11:30 am, 2:30 – 3 pm, 5:30 pm closed for day

Tennis and Racquetball

Single and doubles tennis is open.

  • Tennis is available during all of our open hours.
  • Bring your own tennis balls with different numbers than your opponents to ensure you only handle your own balls.
  • Stay 6 feet apart from other players. Do not make physical contact with them (such as shaking hands and high fiving).
  • When playing doubles, coordinate with your partner to maintain physical distance.
  • Remain apart from other players if changing sides of the court or when taking a break.
  • If a ball comes from another court, send it back with a kick or your racquet.
  • If you are a part of a small group lesson, tubes to pick up balls will be numbered to ensure you only handle the same tube for the duration of the lesson.
  • Reservations for tennis should be made with Aline Berkenbrock at aline berkenbrock@jcajax.org.
  • Reservations will be accepted 48 hours in advance and not before.


  • One racquetball court is available for one member/household to use.
  • Members must bring their own equipment (racquet, balls, eye protection).
  • Racquetball court will be closed from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday for cleaning.

Wellness Connexion

Wellness Coaches are available for virtual wellness screenings.Telephonic Health Coaching will continue to take place online. To make a virtual appointment with a Baptist Health Registered Nurse Wellness Connexion Coach:

No Kid Kare (drop off babysitting) for the time being.

No team sports are currently permitted.

The locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms and hot tub will not be open.
