Upon Myron Flagler’s retirement, the board and staff of the JCA asked themselves how best to honor his twenty years as JCA Executive Director. “Myron has made a difference in the lives of so many. It is hard to pinpoint one area where he made the greatest impact,” said JCA Board Chair Brent Trager. “Ultimately, it became clear that we wanted to create something in his honor that would allow us to invest in our community in perpetuity,” Trager continued. From this, the endowment for the Myron Flagler Israel Learning Seminar was created. This fund creates an opportunity for Jacksonville’s Jewish communal professionals to come together over a year to engage in monthly study about all aspects of Israel and Jewish peoplehood that culminates with a week-long seminar in Israel.
This program was initiated by Flagler in 2012 for JCA staff and continued in 2016 with a half JCA, half Jacksonville Jewish professional contingent. Participants bring Israel literacy into our Jewish organizations and our communities through programming, events and informal conversations to foster the professional development of their organization’s staff and build a link between our community and the Jewish state of Israel.
This endowment was established through the Planned Giving Division of the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville and will instill Jewish literacy for communal professionals who work for any of Jacksonville’s Jewish institutions and ensure this experience can be offered once every two to three years.
