Cultural Arts at the JCA has a wide variety of cultural programs, activities and special events to inspire, inform and entertain JCA members, the Jewish community and the greater Jacksonville community. These programs include annual festivals, concerts, art classes, artist talks and other opportunities for you to explore your creativity, meet renowned artists and writers and share in a culture of creativity with others in the Jacksonville community.

Art Classes

The JCA offers several different art classes and workshops each season. These classes utilize a wide range of media and techniques, and are designed to help you unleash your creative side.

Pottery: Learn the basics or fine tune your handbuilding or wheel throwing skills. Craftsmanship, creativity and an appreciation for the elements of well-made, functional pottery are emphasized. Clay is provided.

Oil Painting: Explore basic painting techniques while developing visual awareness and artistic self-expression. Principles in 2-D art, use of materials, painting techniques and color mixing are studied through a variety of subject matter.

Drawing: Learn to draw through various exercises and a variety of drawing media and techniques.

Pastel Painting: Explore the basics of painting with pastels and learn methods and techniques for working with the medium. Beginner and up.

Chinese Ink Painting: This class introduces you to basic through advanced techniques of Chinese brush painting. Explore simple brush strokes and take inspiration from flowers, small animals and landscapes to create an evocative painting.

Art in the Afternoon: Monthly art workshops exploring various forms of arts and crafts.

Vandroff Art Gallery

The Vandroff Art Gallery is JCA’s art gallery, with rotating exhibits each month showcasing local artists.

Feb 28 to March 27

Theresa Rykaczewski | Reception: March 17 from 3 – 5 pm

Theresa is an artist and gallery director in Atlantic Beach, Florida. She has been painting and teaching art classes for the last ten years including community based workshops and university guest lectures. Her work has been featured in over thirty exhibitions nationally. Theresa specializes in oil painting in traditional and impasto techniques of landscape and figurative work. Her inspiration is drawn from a love of nature and history.

March 28 to May 1

Allen Thomas Ball
Allen’s work is deeply influenced by time spent as a child at phosphate mines and land owned by the timber and pulp industries in Florida and shows man’s impact on the environment..

May 2 to 29

Cyndi Horn and Linda Hawkins | Reception: May 5 from 2 – 4 pm
“Taking Flight” is a collaborative exhibit between Horn and Hawkins, featuring various works, both realistic and abstract, with a strong focus on birds and the natural world.

May 30 to June 26

Kristin Cronic | Reception: June 2 from 1 – 3 pm
Returning from service in the Navy, Kristin, a Jacksonville native, has found her “roots” where she grew up. Inspired by the St. Johns River, ancient live oaks and other reminders of her childhood, her work explores the place she, once again, calls home.

JCA Film Series

The JCA’s Sunday Film Series offers free, open showings of a fantastic collection of movies each season. These movies are chosen due to their cultural, and entertainment, value. All showings are FREE and open to the community. We hope you come and enjoy our latest showings!

In addition to the Sunday Film Series, other movie nights and film screenings are often planned each season.

JCA Concert Series

The JCA takes pleasure in bringing world-renowned musicians to Jacksonville with the JCA Young Concert Artists Series, in cooperation with Young Concert Artists, Inc. Classical musicians from around the world take the JCA stage as part of the JCA’s efforts to provide premier musical and cultural events for the Jacksonville community.

Thanks to the generosity of the Berman Family, these concerts are free and open to the entire community.
